Duane Martin and Tisha Campbell Martin emceed the star-studded affair which included "old school" entertainment from Evelyn "Champagne" King and The Whispers. Both acts did not disappoint. They sang and sweated, we danced and sweated.
Let's just say this was one of those parties where, if you came to get wet from sweat, you were in the place to be. It was definitely on and popping.
After the live music portion and the Happy Birthday greetings, the DJ and hype man took over spinning serious hardcore old school funk.
Needless to say it was at that point that the beautiful birthday gal herself took over the dance floor and handled her business to the with the bad boy himself, Bobby Brown, while her husband, the honorable Michael Misick (Mr. Turks and Caicos himself) looked on with approval and appreciation. We might also add that LisaRaye is one incredible boogie woman. Daaayuum (I just had to highlight that part...it's funny the way they spelled damn...cute.) she can dance. Who knew (I did! I heard the woman can PARTY...her wedding was a party. That's how you do it gal! I mean plus she turned the big 40...hello!)?! Anyway, it wasn't long before she had the vaunted "King of Stage" completely soaked in sweat from head to toe it seemed. After about 10-15 minutes of non-stop action, Mr. Brown had to bow out. He just couldn't hang any more. Meanwhile, Miss Thang, er, First Lady was making like the Energizer bunny and kept on going and going. You know she had no shortage of dudes (Her man KNOWS she aint going nowhere...so yes he's cool) wanting to get their groove on with her (Uh...yeah...cuz she fine!). And yes, it was all tasteful and respectful. But it was definitely funky! LisaRaye is so much FUN! That's the kinda girl who is good to have as a friend.
Oh yeah, you're probably wondering who else was there. Well we can't remember everybody, but we saw the legendary Smokey Robinson, Nancy Wilson and Gamble & Huff. We also spotted Cedric The Entertainer, Teena Marie, Mo'Nique, Niecy Nash and LisaRaye's sister's DaBrat. (Wait 'til you see her outfit. That's all we'll say.) The sports world was represented by Michael Irvin and Charles Oakley. Other celebs in the house included, Christopher Williams (I haven't seen that boy in forever! He was in a play not to long ago though.), Kenya Moore, Joe Torry, Dawn Lewis, Kiki Shepherd, Kym Whitley, EUR's Lee Bailey and business mogul/casino owner Don Barden. Speaking of business, we also saw producers Jeff Clanagan and Robi Reed.
Yep, the party may have been in posh Beverly Hills, but that didn't stop damn near err'body from gettin' funked up.
Dang. Sounds like fun. You know it had to be a blast with Da Brat, Mo'Nique and Cedric there. They had a true Grown Folks party. Solid.
