Well not really. No sex (Not directly. Hmm..not that i know of). No lies. (Not today anyway).

There is something overtly illicit and indulging about pool parties. The secret taste of forbidden seems to stir the air. There is something openly sensual about water, warm bodies, beer, swim caps & loose lips that sink ships. You don’t have to say this out loud. It’s just known. You know what I mean? Yea you do. So what happens when Greg Street, Dennis Byron, DJ Judgmental and sexy singles from the A town meet on a Saturday afternoon? Well that I’m not telling. These lips are not loose. No ships will sink…not on my watch.

I can share some jewels though. Come closer to your screen here...closer...closer. Okay. Here it goes. I love a good party. Yes i do. And while that's not a jewel to all that's a perfect preface for the bauble i'm divulging. And that's that you should have been there. It was what you would call, good times. New artist Maff Test had his listening session with photographs snapping and video rolling (so yes the video part is true), Dj Judgemental did his thing, Greg Street played the primo host, people ate, folks drank, a few cuties swam and the rest i'll keep to myself as i often do quite a many things. I'm not the kid who used to share her toys. In fact i never had them. Don't ask me about now...

Maff Test, musically yours...

Maff Test

Maff Test...i wasn't so sure about him at first, that's the truth. There are so many rappers or would be's out here that it's a task for me to get excited about a new claimant. I met Maff last weekend at a Greg Street (V103 radio Atlanta) and Dennis Byron (Hip Hop Weekly contributor) hosted pool party/Maff Test album listening event at the Block Lofts in Atlanta. Things were swinging and the day was winding down with the sun in a race close behind. And in he walks. The young Illinois (raised close to my hometown = brownie points) bred rapper sauntered into the room followed by a few of what i would guess to be his entourage. He was clean from head to toe. All eyes and cameras were immediately on him. Talk about making an entrance. Yet with all the hooha that followed him walking into the room and making such the fuss...he had a certain controlled poise about him that can be respected by the young and desperates trying to still cling to youth in an unfriendly industry. I hate the word swag (ugh too overused!) but as i dig into my "sometimes" bag full of rejected vocabulary words i pull out "swag" for Maff Test, Young Harvey born Jason D. Frazier.

So a strong presence is nice but not good enough for me. So what challenged me? I heard the music. And it's not that i like every song that Maff is delivering, not everything is always a winner with even the best of artists. It's his sound. It's his story. Meaning that he is telling a story with a great sound. Weaving a tale while sounding off is something that i miss in hip hop so when such is encountered my attention is captured. Plus he's a bit of an enigma. Somebody wise must have told a young Maff not to "throw his pearls to swine". Maff abided not one to over share or give all of his inner secrets away he remains a bit of a mystery fueling the curious to find out more on this new up and coming rap superstar. So meet Maff Test, a young man with a remarkable inner strength who is steady working his craft to become musically yours.

In May's end this year 20 chosen art students from different middle schools participated in a drawing contest in the grand vaulted area of Atlanta's historical High Museum of Art during the hour challenge. As a result, 10 kids were blessed for their artistic talents with an all expenses paid trip to Florence Italy during the summer!It was a happy environment but slightly tense during the judging process because naturally every child wanted to win. The judges meticulously went over each participants art piece fairly looking at that child's view of the pre chosen piece of flowers on a table to be re-created in their own vision. I love the creativity aspect!At the end all the kids were rewarded because every child got a gift certificate for their family for dinner at the always supportive sponsor for the foundation, Carrabbas Italian Grill as well as a book detailing a past Frank Ski Kids Foundation trip to the beautiful Galapagos Islands.

As many know, The Frank Ski Kids Foundation focuses on educating children and giving them opportunities in the arts, sports and science. Where many art programs are not looked upon as important in certain schools and even taken away, this foundation has a special place for those kids who excel and allows them to dream! An annual fundraiser is held every year in the form of a famed wine tasting as well as a kickoff hyped youth bowl allowing boys and girls to play and cheer their way into money and awards! I had the pleasure to speak with The Ski's about their upcoming trip to Italy with the kids (It's Frank's first time!) , why art is so important to our children and a little about what's coming up with the foundation.

Don't you wish you were a kid again? And if any chaperones are needed to help out during this magnificent Florence education art excursion...i'm just saying! Truly it was just a pleasure to be there. It'll be exciting to follow up with the kids upon their return from their amazing overseas excursion in August. Tyler Perry could discover you this weekend in Atlanta!

Tasha Smith's acting/coaching work shop will be in Atlanta this weekend. Would be actors and actresses can attend Smith's class being held at the 14th street playhouse over the weekend in day time sessions from 10 am to 3 pm or evening sessions from 5 pm to 10 pm. The weekend long full crash course is $500.

Tasha's class has produced such talent like the handsome, Lance Gross from, "House of Payne" and "Meet the Browns.". Tyler Perry himself is known to stop by the classes to see what type of talent is in the house, that being how he discovered Lance Gross and made him a star! In fact Tasha told Atlanta urban radio station V-103 this morning that Mr.Perry, who is known to cast "unknowns" and fresh faces, promised to stop by the acting classes over this weekend to check things out. Who knows...you might get discovered. Tasha met Tyler through her good friend, Tyra Banks. Dang, seems like Tyra is a good friend to have. Girlfriend hooked her girl up and changed her entire career. Do you believe in the concept of "Six Degrees of Separation"? I do!

The stands filled last Saturday for the moment of truth. Who would win- the Sandtown Vikings or the Central Dekalb Black Jaguars? Even though the tension was thick, the coaches were pouncing, and the rain fell steady there was still a happiness that surrounded the stadium as hundreds and hundreds of people joined in the festivities. Grills ran in the stuffed parking lot, kids peddled candy on the steps, Young Ralph performed, "Look Like Money" and threw money into a crowd of excited kids, Shawty Lo performed, "Dey Know" (see video below) causing the kids to draw in even closer to sing along to words from a son that they hear on their favorite radio station, V-103. The station has helped these local rappers become superstars in their own right. The afternoon was nothing but fun! I am well past grade school age but nevertheless found my self beaming like a 5th grader. And yes I am "smarter" than one Fox Networks and America, thank you!

I spoke with Nina Brown, the morning show producer for the Frank and Wanda Morning show on V-103 and learned that she first started out working for the foundation. I also had an opportunity to speak with Stan and Prez, close friends of Frank Ski about what the foundation meant for them. They were so proud to see how far it has come in such a short time. As I reported earlier this week, The Sandtown Vikings did win by a landslide: 54 to 7. This was an especially important win for the Vikings, their first in a competition of many. The boys in purple were proud. One of the greatest things about the foundation is that every teams wins. Prizes equalling up to $20,000 is split between the 4 teams that start off to play during the joyous annual awards ceremony. The largest amount of $10,000 goes to the championship winning team. Legacy Communities, Air Tran, and Kroger are all responsible for helping these dreams come true with their generous sponsorships.

The wondrous wine tasting held at the Ski's Atlanta mansion, and attended by the likes of: Diddy, Malik Yoba, Speech (Arrested Development), 112, and many others followed the next day aiding in raising more money for the foundation to continue its work in the community. The Frank Ski Kids Foundation saw another successful year! The 4th annual celebrity wine tasting and auction went off happily with Christmas spirit at Frank and Tanya (she is always such a poised and warm spirited women) Ski's illustrious north Atlanta home. This year the December 16th event was catered by Carrabbas (makes sense since Frank & Wanda plug the restaurant so heavily on their V-103 morning show...should be great business pick-up for the Southern Italian restaurant) and several celebrity appearances were made: Yung Joc, Emmanuel Lewis, Keith Sweat, Brian Jordan (Atlanta Braves), Luke ("Don't stop...get it get it!"), Malik Yoba, Speech (of Arrested Development- and yes they are still recording and as FABULOUS as ever!) & his wife Yolanda, Q & Slim of 112, DJ Troomp, Vernon Jones and Dallas Austin. (thanks to the Sandra Rose Gallery for most of the pictures.)

Our media friend Diddy even stopped by and showed his love supporting the cause by bidding $14,000 during a bidding war on a 2002 six liter bottle of Opus One. I think the gentlemen that was bidding against diddy was trying to get a little attention, prove a point and show Mr. Combs up a little. Oh well the Ciroc Vodka endorser won and money was raised!

I will report on the pre-events that I had the pleasure to attend that were the youth bowls hosted by the foundation. Every year a youth bowl is held allowing the children ages 12-15 to perform in football for money and trophies received to go to their communites. In the final championship game last Saturday, The Sandtown Vikings didn't let the rain stop their focus, they won their first title, kicked major tail and scored an impressive 56 to 7 against the Central Dekalb Jaguars! Wooo hooo! Stay tuned for more news, videos and pictures from this event later.

Frank Ski Kids Foundation youth bowl highlights

The team spirit was thicker than freshly shorn wool as I waded through the crowd of thousands of supporters on my way to the media tent. This past Saturday The Frank Ski Kids Foundation hosted their fourth annual youth bowl playoff game at Halford Stadium in Decatur. The Sandtown Vikings won in a landslide victory against the Ben Hill Tigers 56 to 6! The second team to play and win for the day was the Central DeKalb Black Jaguars against the Milford Warriors. But football isn't just for boys...each team had an energetic cheerleading squad of young ladies to back the guys up in their mission to win!

The children in these four incredible football teams ages 11-13 played in the exciting Frank Ski Kids Foundation's annual Youth Bowl to compete for their share of grants, prizes and trophies of more than $20,000! Frank and Tanya Ski are true philanthropists who care about the future of our city and the world. Frank Ski was honored October 14th this year by Martell Noblige for his philanthropic efforts in the community.

I did have an opportunity to speak with Frank and Tanya about the youth bowl, the history of the foundation as well as get some information of a future expansion. Look for that information here soon. I know...I'm a tease!

A highlight of the game day was watching Harmony, 4 young beautiful brown girls, perform the National Anthem. These little ladies sounded like black angels in flight.

The Championship game will be Saturday, December 15, 2007 @ 12:00PM @ Halford Stadium 3789 Memorial College Drive, Decatur, GA 30021. This time the Vikings will go up against the Black Jaguars. The Frank Ski Kids Foundation Presents...

"Are you ready for some football??!!"

4 years ago Atlanta radio host DJ Frank Ski of v-103 started the Frank Ski Kids Foundation, an organization dedicated to "providing quality programming and financial resources through science, technology, athletics and the arts" for the youth. "Exposing kids to their future" the slogan perfectly sums it up. Annually the foundation has a Youth Bowl tournament followed by a $250 a ticket wine tasting/auction held at The Ski's lovely home in Atlanta. The youth bowl is fun with Hip Hop performances and exciting as you watch the kids duke it out for their chance to hold a football title. The wine tasting hosted by Frank (his wife Tanya is very gracious and hospitable) is both glamorous and elite as many of entertainment's celebrities and high society steps out to support the cause. Last year appearances were made by: 112, Sammy, Jermaine Dupri, Vincent Demock (attorney), Ryan Cameron and many more. Chef Mark Brown blew us all away with his exquisite culinary prowess with dishes ranging from the simple seafoods to the unique pastries. I'll never forget that man, my mouth is still watering.

Check out the cause. The Frank Ski Kids Foundation is an organization really doing something for the kids. The projects that we see unfold before our eyes is proof that the money is put where the mouthpiece is. Earlier this summer The Frank Ski Kids Foundation sent 10 kids for a week long trip to the Galapagos Islands. These "chosen ones" were not randomly drawn out of a hat to go but instead had to use their noggins, a goal of the foundation, for a chance to attend the island. Students between the ages of 13 and 15wrote presidential speeches about the environment and the conservation of energy. The best 20 gave their speeches at the Georgia Aquarium in May's end. Ten went to space camp in Hunstville, AL and ten got to go to the islands with Frank Ski, reps from the Aquarium and Zoo Atlanta. Sponsors for the event included Legacy Homes and REI. Not only was this an incredible opportunity but the best part is all the kids were winners for making the top 20.

An Underground King'Z last day

Saying goodnight to Pimp C of UGK

As the entertainment world and rap enthusiasts already know, southern rapper Pimp C of UGK was found dead yesterday in his LA hotel room on the Sunset Strip. I wrote about this yesterday but I wanted to share some more information about the infamous Underground King. Pimp C or Chad Butler was in LA for a concert that he'd done with rapper Too Short the Saturday before. The Houston rapper was supposed to check out of his hotel on Monday but when his family didn't hear from him they alerted the hotel. Chad must have been close to his family and talked to them on a regular basis for them to be immediately concerned. That's when a 911 call was made on Tuesday and Pimp C was found in his bed, fully clothed but not alive. At this time they are saying that he seems to have died of natural causes...no drugs or foul play seems to be involved but an autopsy will determine that for sure. I felt the need to share that there was no drugs or foul play SEEMINGLY (again more details will be revealed of cause of death later) involved in his death at this time because I know that people are aware of the wilder lifestyle that some celebrities and BIG money makers seem to live so can quickly assume an OD when a rapper or rock star is found suddenly dead. Also in a world where crime is partial to no one, especially with the recent death of Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor, it's quick to jump to the conclusion that another one of us got snuffed by another one of us. All that being said it does not take away from the fact that Pimp C is not here to speak up for himself one last time, nor that his young son, Chad, Jr. won't get to hug his daddy. He is still gone and there is no comfort in that for his family, friends, and fans.

Pimp C had been locked up and back again a couple of times but was turning things around. Many of you may not know that Pimp C had big plans for 2008. He was starting a career as a solo artist with Jive Records. A distraught 8 Ball called into Atlanta radio's V103 last night to speak with Greg Street during the Pimp C/UGK (the other member of the group is Bun B) musicathon (it was awesome! musically these guys (UGK) really do meet their moniker and then some.) and shared with listeners that Pimp C had plans to start a non-profit and give back to the community as well. One of the first A&R reps for Cash Money Records, Pimp C performed with many artists like: OutKast, Too Short, E40, 8 Ball & MJG, T.I., etc. He also was a ghost writer, and you know that's where the money is REALLY at. Chad Butler was a legend without enough merit. I guess that's the effects of being underground.

This years. "International Players Anthem", which one a BET Hip Hop Award this year, was fairly one of the bigger more mainstream hits from UGK. If you've seen the video Chad is the one in the white fur coat, pimpin' it out! I love that song, it really is international. One of the other bigger songs was, "Big Pimpin'" with Jay-Z back in 2000. Or you may remember "Pocket Full of Stones" from their younger years. Pimp C was only 33 when he passed and I'm sure many left with unsaid goodbyes in their mouths.

Life is not promised day to day for each individual, but still it lives even after one goes. I pray that we as people can live our lives the time that we have here in love and peace. You know what that means for you. If there is drama you don't need to cause, don't start none won't be none. Most importantly treat those you say you love like you REALLY love them, so many need to remember this, myself included, I know I'm not preaching to the choir. Read, really read 1 Corinthians 13 for a true example of L O V E. Love is not only about emotion but action, sacrifice and forgiveness. Okay i'm not here to preach, just to share. I myself have so much to learn! So take what you can from it or other positive sources.

Once again I send out well wishes and prayers for Pimp C's family, friends and partners in the business.

Thanksgiving Miracles- T.I., Ryan Cameron, JD, and Polo Da Don pull it together!

The Atlanta boys in black did it big this year for the Holiday!

Last week pre-Thanksgiving T.I. and Ryan Cameron of V103 radio worked together to help Hosea Feed the Homeless keep their giving going by raising over $166 thousand dollars. The organization had just lost a $150k supporter this year so the popular radio personality & T.I. along with celebrity friends like JD brought in the giving spirit in just a few hours! Wow! I'm so impressed and glad in my heart.

In addition the Grand Hustle family donated 400 turkeys. Not to be outdone...Polo Da Don did the same the day before the holiday (400 turkey giveaway on Cascade in Atlanta) and added one up...anyone who lived in Zone 4 got their rent paid...for a year! I don't think this was in direct competition of each other in no means, but a friendly out giving doesn't hurt those who receive I say.

Great news...great job Atlanta. I would love to see things like this happen all year round.
