After 45 years in fashion Valentino is stepping down


The 75 year old Italian bred fashion Icon is stepping down In January 2008 from his regarded position as head designer of the Valentino empire. His last personal works will include rolling out his ready-to-wear collection in October and his couture collection in January.
The royal fashion genius said he decided the time was right after he celebrated 45 years in the fashion world with a three-day, star-studded extravaganza in Rome this past July. The party, which included a museum exhibit of his designs, a fashion show and a gala in the Roman Forum where Valentino-clad acrobats danced above the ruins, drew the likes of Mick Jagger, Princess Caroline of Monaco, model Claudia Schiffer and of course Sex in the City fashionista herself, actress Sarah Jessica Parker.

"It would be impossible to equal the emotion and joy over the friendship and consideration that the world showed me on that occasion," Valentino said. "As such, I have decided that this is the perfect moment to say 'addio' (farewell) to the fashion world."

Valentino Garavani started his career in Paris and then moved to Rome to open his own fashion house in the 1960's. Elizabeth Taylor and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis were among his some of his first famous celebrity clients.
